MICHAEL SHARMON – On with the Music- 12 years in Hong Kong

Michael Sharmon has spent the last 12 years  working  in musical theater in Hong Kong – writing , directing, producing and performing. He found opportunities there that were not available to him in Australia, but finally decided to leave for family reasons. A reflective interview that gives insight into the world of hard working singers and performers in Hong Kong.

Phia is a multi instrumentalist singer songwriter with a penchant for Kalimbas and looping. She also is a choir leader and uses the Melbourne Indie Choir which she founded to add depth and ambience to her work. This interview contains four of the songs from her latest album :  Someone Out There, All My Friends, Coffee After 3, and Full Circle.

WALLIS BIRD – new album ‘HANDS’

Irish born, Berlin based singer/songwriter Wallis Bird has released a new album ‘Hands’ – 91/2 songs for 91/2 fingers.

In production and arrangements  it is a fresh take on her material. Here she talks with radio presenter of Arts Canvass Karena Wynn-Moylan.

Bruce Munro – Tripping the Light Fantastic

Bruce Munro’s beautiful installation at Uluru in Central Australia  ‘Field of Light’ has been drawing delighted viewers for some time now. In fact way longer than Munro intended, as his artworks are designed to be ephemeral. But it has proved so popular it has remained , and now he has plans to make another, different installation in Byron Shire in Northern NSW Australia.

Mick McHugh – a little ‘Sunshine’ in your life

Mick McHugh is an Irish singer/songwriter who has lived in Australia for some time – probably because his wife Amanda is an Australian!  His previous CD was ‘A Million Stars’.

Luka Bloom’s latest album ‘Bittersweet Crimson’ is actually his 22nd– that’s a lot of song writing, a lot of stories, and a lot of touring.

But as he tells Arts Canvass’s Karena Wynn-Moylan ,  in this revealing interview- he now writes different material to the those first albums, more outward looking, and ironically, he has produced this latest CD knowing he couldn’t tour with it due to the current world situation. Despite this, he has had enormous success in Ireland with  single form the Cd ‘The Beauty of everyday Things’ We ponder why this particular track struck a chord with listeners and just what  the role of being a songwriter means in todays  world..
