The Australian Arts Party – time to stand up for the Arts!

Is Australia the most culturally backward nation on the planet?

arts party poster

We shouldn’t have to have a political party devoted to the platform of increasing support and appreciation of the necessity of Arts in the everyday  life of Australians – but with the dwindling government support, increasing disregard for artistic copyright and due payment and the cutting back of grass roots funding programs in all areas of the Arts – the time  has come to stand up and be counted.

This new blog page is devoted to the progress, through the coming federal election, to the  Australian Arts Party in the hope that those of you who read books ,listen to music, watch films, enjoy magazines, fashion, opera, theatre and so much more will realise the threat the Arts are facing in today’s political climate.

No major party has seen fit to include the Arts in their platforms so far, in fact the only mention the Arts have been getting in the last few elections are notices of ‘cut backs’ to funding and ‘belt tightening’.

P.J Collins founded the Arts Party after realising that unless someone starts speaking up for the  Arts community, we will be ignored  by all political parties.

With over 1600 fully paid up members, the changes to the senate selection procedures will not affect their eligibility to run but they need many more financial members and support so please go check out their candidates  and their website.

I will be conducting more interviews with P.J. in the coming months in the lead up to the election so watch this special page for updates.

With two weeks to go the funding is one third to target.. Can you spare some money to help keep the Arts high profile in your community?

4.Eight Days to Go on the Crowd funding campaign!

Here’s a catch up with P.J Collins on how the Crowd funding Campaign is going  – there’s a been a great response but they still have to raise $8000 more in the next eight days.Surely we can do this as an arts community?

Remember, we make world history if we get this happening!

5.Everything is Pozible!

The campaign to raise more than $35000 has succeeded ( despite a few site hassles with the fundraiser software!)

Now we need one million arts loving Australians to put a tick in the right box  on election day to show they care about the creative industries in this country.

6.The Arts Party platform  begins to influence the Greens!

Nearly 19 candidates will run – Anthony Ackroyd is running against Prime Minister Malcolm  Turnbull and the call is going out for election day volunteers.

7.ONLY TWO WEEKS TO GO AND ALREADY INFLUENCING THE OUTCOME!

Even though the Arts Party is fielding just 20 candidates on a limited budget, an amazing side effect of their platform is beginning to emerge – a whole host of other parties are suddenly putting the Arts into their policy statements!

The Greens have incorporated quite a bit of the Arts Party platform and even flowed preferences to the party as well.

So don’t think this is going to be boring, outcome decided election – all kinds of new things could spring from the emergence of the Arts Party into the political arena. Here”s the indefatigable P.J Collins with an update. And yes, they still need donations at their site to help with costs – www.artsparty.org.

8.The end is sight – or is it just the beginning? With less than a week to go, we will soon know if the Australian public wants their very own  dedicated Arts candidate! Here is PJ Collins  letting us in on the nitty gritty details of running  an election campaign on a shoestring.
