Abdi Aden – ‘Shining’

Abdi Aden - book cover

Abdi was born in Somalia and his refugee story is one that so many refugees would understand – but he wrote it so those of us more fortunate could also appreciate how war destroys families, communities and countries and the challenges faced by those who flee to a new life. Abdi was part of the cast for the second series of ‘Go Back to Where you Came From’.

Although he was pleased to be offered the chance to explain what being a refugee from war meant, the process caused him to relive  his trauma and to question whether he really was now ‘australian’ or still a ‘refugee’.
